Museum :
In 1973 Archeology & Museum unit was set up in the Department
of Archives in Goa and thereafter a small Museum was opened
for public on 29th Sept 1977 in a rented building at St. Inez.
After construction of the present building the museum was
shifted to a new museum complex at Patto in Panjim which was
inaugurated by the President of India on 18th June 1996.
The museum at present has the collection of about 8000 objects,
which includes Stone Sculptures, Wooden objects, Bronzes,
Paintings, Manuscripts, numismatic collection, anthropological
objects, clay models etc.
At present the museum has set up twelve galleries which are
as follows:

6.
Environment & Development Gallery:
This gallery pertains to environment and development of
Goa and is developed under Conservation Education Centre
set up by WWF - India and emphasize on teh importance
of the conservation of environment and shows effects of
pollution with the help of dioramas.

Numismatic Gallery:
This gallery displays coins of Satavahans, Shilaharas
and Kadambas as well as Portuguese coinage currency notes.
Also moulds and blocks used for printing the notes are
displayed .

8.
Goa's Freedom Struggle Gallery:
The freedom struggle of Goa is depicted through
photographs in this gallery.

9.
Menezes Braganza Gallery:
In this gallery the collection from Menezes Braganza
gallery is displayed which includes replicas of the bronze
sculptures of European artists like Claude, Dalon and
paintings of western artists as well as objects like porcelain.

Furniture Gallery:
The Furniture Gallery is set up in western style.
The gallery includes palanquin-like vehicle called “Machul”
as well as The Table of Goa Inquisition.
