Siolim House ( Casa Palacio)- Goa
Siolim House is a 350 year old Portuguese
era manor house that once belonged to a governor of Macau,
saved from almost certain ruin in 1996, and carefully restored
primarily as a home. Although still a home, it is now a unique
"Heritage" boutique Resort in Goa,
and operates with a sensitive philosophy very unlike a Resort.
In the our most thoughtful reviews you will often hear "understated",
"elegant", "lacks artificiality". 10 years
we have been operating this is what we want to hear.
When we decided to restore the house in 1996, Siolim
House's future looked bleak - for five years it had
fought a losing battle with the Goa monsoon (see the before
and after photographs) that over the period the of Portuguese
Goa single handedly reduced thousands of houses and Palacios
in Goa to the red earth! At least this house, one of the last
surviving in the older Casa de Sobraado style and and among
the oldest in Goa would get a fair chance.
